What is a Blog?
"A blog (a contraction of the term "weblog")[1] is a type of website, usually maintained by an individual with regular entries of commentary, descriptions of events, or other material such as graphics or video. Entries are commonly displayed in reverse-chronological order. "Blog" can also be used as a verb, meaning to maintain or add content to a blog." Definition from Wikipedia

Why should you blog?

  • To Replace your income;
  • To Add to your income; or
  • Just for fun.
The first step to living the blog life is to set up a weblog (blog), there are many choices when it comes to free blogs for you to get you started in the world of blogging. Such as blogger.com, wordpress.com and tumblr.com. I would recommend that you have a look at each of the blogs to see which one you think would best suit your requirements.

I started with Blogger as it is run by Google which makes it easy to combine it with other Google products, using the same account, such as Google ad words and Google analytics which tracks your website statistics, such as hits per day and page views which it displays in an easy to view format.

Hosted vs Self-Hosted Blog Platform
There is no need for me to re-invent the wheel on this one as I found a great post on "The Personal Assistant" Blog. Click Here to view the post.

For those starting out in the world of blogging I would suggest you read everything that you can find about blogs and blogging this will give you a good understanding of what your getting yourself into and what you will need to know to get on your way. One of the most helpful books that I found is "Blogging for Dummies" (Bellow) it will give you a great rundown on what a blog is and how to set up the various types of blogs.

Is it possible to live a life through blogging?
Well after reading a lot of blogs and other websites related to blogging and making money online I have decided to go on a quest to see if it is in fact possible for a typical Aussie Bloke to make money online through blogging.

My goal will be to completely replace my income with online income over the next 12 months to see if its possible for me to "Live the Blog Life". As I go though this journey I will document it with facts and figures of the things that are working for me and the things that aren't, with the aim of helping you to make an income online.

I am new to blogging and all the methods that I use to make money online will be aimed at Australians as there already appears to be a lot of information out there for US bloggers and affiliate marketing.

If you choose to follow along my journey then you will probably want a little bit of a background on me to see where I am coming from. I am 24 Years old and have worked for the government in the field of I.T. for the past 6 Years and although I do have an IT background I will be writing this blog aimed at people who have little or no IT experience.

I am by no means a writer and actually struggled with English during my schooling so if the words on the page at times don't make sense then I do apologise in advanced. I am married with 1 kid and another due any day now and that is my inspiration to make this work because if I can replace my wage with an online income I will have more time to spend with the family and will be able to create a better life for Myself, My Family and those around me.

Well that's the plan in a nutshell, If you would like to follow along don't forget to bookmark my site and check back often.
